There was a time, when there were no technologies readily available, a time when everyone had to care for themselves and their tribe. You are now in charge of building a village during this time. You need to build wooden huts to protect your villagers. You will earn the resources to do so by mining. To succeed, you need to build a glorious city, with which you can compete with other players. Feed your people, build your city, mine the much needed resources and continue onwards. Make sure you know how to place your buildings, so that you can avoid problems with displaced buildings in the future.
